Website Search Engine Optimisation Tips

Optimising Website Page Titles

Website Search Engine Optimisation - Website Page TitlesThe intelligent Search Engine spider attempts to evaluate the Website, by reading the Title of each Page – much as a reader would when perusing the index of a book. This provides the Search Engine with clues as to the Website's content.

The Page Title is the single most important Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) factor on a Web page. It has a large effect on the Search Engine Ranking. It lets the Search Engine know what the Web Page is all about. Good SEO results can be achieved just by optimising the Page Title.

The Website's current Page Title appears in bold at the top of Website's listing in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). It also appears at the top of the Web browser when the Website has been selected. It appears in the Task Bar at the bottom of the Window.

The Page Title must be attractive to the visitor. Having found your site in the SERP, if a visitor does not find the Title appealing, good Rankings are a futile effort.

Website Search Engine Optimisation - Tips
  • Each and every web page must have a descriptive page-specific Title.
  • Make sure that the Title is not blank, or does not use a default value like "Untitled".
  • The Title on every Web page must be unique.
  • The Title can include the Business Name.
  • The Home Page Title should cover the broadest possible topic matter. Subsequent Web Pages should be more specific.
  • It is important to ensure that the Page Title is Search Engine friendly. It should be Keyword rich. Use only the Keywords appearing on the page, but not too many.
  • The Title must summarise the content of the Web page and relate to the contents of the Page.
  • The Page Title should be concise (but not too concise) and contain no more than 65 characters. Anything longer will be truncated. Check the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) to see if the Page Title is effectively using the space available.
